Drsika: Pancha Asanas

Practical, Fun, Yet Analytical Perspectives for Five Familiar Poses

​

Join me for a thought-provoking course offered through Yoga Alliance (YA). This course is designed to offer various perspectives of five familiar (and some possibly unfamiliar) asanas.

​

Who should take this course?

  • Students who are interested in taking a closer look at the reasons behind the asanas.

  • Teachers who are looking for YA CECs that will help them dig a little deeper into poses that they just can't seem to find the time to research.

​

In this course participants will learn:
 

  • the Sanskrit name of each pose and ways in which that name informs our practice 

  • benefits/uses (the intentions behind the pose)

  • modifications, props, & /or assists 

  • primary (and some auxiliary) muscles lengthened

  • primary (and some auxiliary) muscles lengthened

  • Interesting tidbits to sprinkle into your teaching

The asanas:

1. Paschimottanasana/Seated Forward Fold

2. Ardha Matsyendrasana/Seated Spinal Twist

3. Chakrasana/Urdhva Dhanurasana/Wheel

4. Parighasana/Gate

5. Parsva Kakasana/Side Crow

​

This course also includes access to:

  • over 75 pages of notes, tidbits, diagrams, and pictures regarding the five asanas and variations

  • demonstration of many of the modifications and props are also explained and provided within the written and still photo sections of the course

  • Zoom conference sessions for instruction, analysis, and discussion   

  • two one-hour class videos to help demonstrate preparatory and follow-up poses as well as use of modifications and props to provide access and challenge for a variety of students

  • 20 minute video tutorial for the function, integration, and methods of engaging and lengthening the Quadratus Lumborum,

If you choose to take this course  through White Crow Yoga, you also have access to the invaluable experience and expertise of Mary Irby, C-IAYT, E-RYT 500, CTP, YACEP.

​

Expectations of the Student: Participate in Zoom session(s); Successfully complete homework (some still pictures or video segments are required); and successful completion of corresponding mini-quizzes within each of the five lessons.   

​

If you are looking for CECs that will help you dig a little bit deeper into poses you know have so much more to them but you just can't seem to find the time to research, this course may be for you.
